My To-Do List
This is a (not even remotely exhaustive) list of things that I want to do. This can include projects I want to do, dishes I want to cook, bike rides I want to take, matches I want to shoot, Wikipedia rabbitholes I want to go down, skills I want to build, whatever. As I do stuff on here, I’ll post it on the blog and link it. As I come up with new things to do, I’ll probably throw them on the list.
Make a to-do listMigrate the blog from using BashBlog as the static site generator to Blag- Build a tempo-based music selector box for bike rides - I want to be able to turn the dial from “leisurely beach cruise” to “ludicrous speed” and have it change the music to make that happen.
- Restore and refinish a rifle - In late December 2025 I picked up an old Winchester model 1906 that needs a little TLC. I want to refinish the stock, clean up all of the surface rust, and re-blue the metal surfaces.
- Develop a load for 7.5x55 Swiss - My Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11 is one of my
favorite rifles to shoot, but I don’t like spending between $1-$1.30 per
trigger pull at the range. I’ve picked up some reloading equipment and
started preparing some of my saved brass, now it’s time to start working up
a good load for my rifle.
- As of April 2026 I have started on this and am having good fun experimenting with different powders and charge weights. Really hoping to just recreate the Privi Partizan loads (but slightly more precise), at present my loads are grouping decently but hit about 8 inches higher than the PPU loads at 50 yards, which is slightly annoying.
- Set up a selfhosted wiki for documentation of various types - primarily home documentation (details about appliances, upgrades, locations of important fixtures like the water and gas cutoffs, stuff like that) but also other documentation that I have on paper and would like to digitize (mostly instruction manuals for certain tools).
- Get my extra class ham radio license - I’ve been a ham for a number of years now, and I definitely have periods where I’m more or less into radio stuff. My favorite radio activity was always POTA but I’ve also been known to enjoy the occasional field day event. I don’t need my extras but it would be fun to get it.
- Compete in a run-n-gun - I’ve done plenty of Brutalities over the years and I love them, but at some point I need to try my hand at a run-n-gun, mostly because a) it’s just a different approach to challenging shooting skills and physical abilities at the same time and b) it’s good motivation to start actually running.
- Build out some better/cooler bikepacking gear - I saw a guy on RAGBRAI with a really cool setup involving some custom brackets for hanging ammo cans off his bike racks for modular, waterproof storage. Sure, it isn’t as good for weight as a nice set of Ortlieb panniers, but they look cool as hell, and it’s a good excuse to go get some more ammo cans which are always handy to have.
- Learn morse code - this one is a bit of a hill to climb, but seeing my friends make contacts across the planet on 5 watts with a somewhat compromised antenna thanks to the magic of CW really has me wanting to learn the old ways.
- Learn another language to a semi-conversational level - I took four years of German in high school and while I’ve lost most of it I’ve been able to navigate some basic interactions the few times I’ve been to Germany since then. Debating between diving back into learning German, learning Spanish (since let’s be real, that would be way more useful), or a secret third thing (idk, Mandarin would be fun but christ idk if I’m committed enough to pull that one off).
